IC Information
Name: Pre: Masaru Daimon and Agumon, Re: Mamoru Daigo and Agumon
Canon: Digimon Savers
Preincarnation Information
Appearance: Yo.
History: As a child, Masaru's father - the brilliant scientist Suguru Daimon - departed from the Human World into the Digital World on an expedition to explore it, and discover the whereabouts of humans that had disappeared into this alternate reality. Ten years later, Masaru - a very strong brawler, and the self-proclaimed "Number One Street Fighter in Japan" - happens upon a creature native to the Digital World, a Digimon that was under the custody of the Digital Accident Tactics Squad (DATS) named Agumon. The human and Digimon meet in battle, and by communicating with their fists, come to an understanding and close friendship. Soon joining DATS as the first line of defense against wild Digimon appearing in his world, Masaru utilizes the power of "Digi-Soul" in order to empower Agumon and have him evolve into the stronger forms of GeoGreymon and RizeGreymon. Together with fellow agents, Yoshino Fujieda and Touma H. Norstein, Masaru and Agumon battle every threat that comes their way.
Until, that is, their involvement with incidents pertaining to Mercurimon, an Ultimate level Digimon that appears to be behind threats leveled against them. The three DATS agents travel to the Digital World to investigate, only to encounter a young boy named Ikuto who believes himself to be a Digimon and hates humans, because of the death of his foster mother Yukidarumon at the hands of human soldiers. While Touma and Yoshino grow in their own power, Masaru battles the boy several times, trying to - literally - beat sense into him.
Inevitably, Ikuto is forced to see the error of what he was doing, but not before the true enemy comes to light - Akihiro Kurata, believed to at first just be a scientist and researcher working under the Japanese government, reveals his intentions to obliterate all Digimon. And that he was behind the attack years ago that claimed Yukidarumon's life.
Though Mercurimon dies saving the DATS agents, Ikuto joins their side. Kurata - along with the Japanese government's backing and his own subordinates, Kouki, Nanami, and Ivan - sets out on a mission of genocide against the Digital World. Masaru and the others fight him every step of the way, and encounter a new ally - BanchouLeomon. BanchouLeomon teaches them the art of unlocking the true potential of their Digi-Soul, and Masaru, Touma, and Yoshino evolve their Digimon to their final stages - ShineGreymon, MirageGaogamon, and Rosemon, respectively. The battle with Kurata claims many lives, and for a time, it seems Touma betrays them, forcing Masaru into a bout of anger that ends up killing and reverting Agumon back into a Digi-Egg.
While it's revealed Touma was acting in order to save his little sister from a bomb Kurata had attached to her, Kurata unveils his true intentions - summoning the power of the ancient Demon King Belphemon, to harness it and take over the world. Masaru - Agumon reborn with his memories intact - and the others fight him, with Masaru eventually unlocking the power of ShineGreymon Burst Mode in order to defeat both Kurata and Belphemon.
The resulting battle trashes the barrier between realities, threatening to make both Human and Digital Worlds collide. It's only barely held up by the power of BanchouLeomon literally holding the two worlds apart. Masaru & the others seek out the god of the Digital World, Yggdrasil, only to be forced into a battle with the Royal Knights and see that Yggdrasil is in fact Masaru's father, Suguru.
While Touma, Ikuto, and Yoshino fight to defend the Human World and end up unlocking the power of Burst Mode themselves, Masaru and Agumon venture towards Yggdrasil to set things right and find out what's going on. Masaru battles Royal Knight Craniummon, and with the assistance of his friends defeats him... and then moves on to battle Suguru/Yggdrasil on his own. Masaru is saved by the timely reappearance of BanchouLeomon, who reveals HE is Suguru - or rather, he is Suguru's Digimon partner with Suguru's soul inside him while Yggdrasil has possessed Suguru's lifeless body. Masaru is forced to kill his father in all his forms in order to defeat Yggdrasil... but even still, Yggdrasil revives and continues fighting.
In the end, with the assistance of the Royal Knights defecting from Yggdrasil, and the power of everyone in the world's Digi-Souls, Masaru and the others defeat Yggdrasil and Suguru is revived. As the Digimon are prepared to be sent back to the Digital World in order to repair the barrier, Masaru leaves with them to continue traveling with Agumon and become a better man.
[Now entering territory covered in guest appearances during the last (as of now) Digimon seires, "Digimon Xros Wars: The Young Hunters Who Leap Through Time."]
Some time after this presumably, Masaru would be called forth to another reality by a mysterious old man and his Clockmon. He, along with four other legendary "leaders" of other realities involved with Digimon - Taichi Yagami, Daisuke Motomiya, Takato Matsuda, and Takuya Kanbara - were called upon to help stem the tide of a threat posed by an entity called Quartzmon. Eventually, Masaru and Taichi were forced to reveal themselves to the heroes of that world when Quartzmon's first form was unveiled. Later, all five of them joined up with the "legendary leader" of that world, Taiki, in order to beat down a swarm of duplicate Digimon created by Quartzmon.
In the end, their power was needed to power a device called the "Brave Snatcher" that would be necessary to defeat Quartzmon, to be powered by one person from each of the timelines pulled there. While Taiki is struck down, that task is handed to his protege Tagiru, and he utilizes that power to win the day. Unfortunately, no sooner do they win does everyone get flung back to their own worlds.
[And now back to Savers proper.]
Or in Masaru's case, landing right back in his Digital World with Agumon. Thus, he went off to continue what he intended - fight the good fight and become stronger.
Personality:
MASARU
Masaru is very much a "punch first, ask questions later" sort of person. He grew up for the majority of his childhood without the influence of his father, yet that lack of presence was still a major driving force for him. With only his mother and sister, he saw himself as the man of the house, and responsible for having the ability to protect his family. To this end, he always felt that he was chasing his father's back, and always trying to find ways of getting stronger.
Thus, how he frequently became embroiled in fights with local street toughs. And for quite awhile when he was younger, he'd get his ass thoroughly kicked. Eventually, he started to become better and better, he began WINNING, and before you knew it he was boasting the title of "the number one street fighter in Japan."
Masaru very much believes that one can communicate their feelings through their fists. Indeed, he literally does put all of his emotions into his fists when fighting, evidenced by the fact this is what sparks his Digi-Soul - something which is the very power of emotions itself. It's something which has proven itself time and again - most notoriously with how he got to know his Digimon partner, Agumon. It's given him his drive to follow through with even near impossible tasks, and in the end it's what's given him the strength to win. Almost without fail, he believes that if he can express his will and emotions through battle, he can find some way or another to win.
However, he is extremely cocky. Though he has been beaten - quite a lot, in fact - he is still ever unwavering in sheer and utter confidence in himself, his strength, and Agumon's own power. He believes that if he tries hard enough, some how, some way he can beat just about anything - and he has the cracked face of the Digital World's god to prove he pretty much can. This has led to him biting off more than he can chew quite often - and it's gone towards quite a few of his aforementioned defeats.
Due to this extreme over confidence, Masaru can very much come across to most people initially as extremely abrasive. Some might even think him a bully at first, always spoiling for a fight. Though the latter of that last sentence is the truth, the former couldn't be further from it. Masaru is loud, often angry, and WILL pick a fight with half the people he meets in most general circumstances, whether verbal or physical...
"How a man should live" is a philosophy inherited from his father, and one of the things about him that stuck with Masaru into his teenage years. It is his
But in the end, he's seeking to do what's right. Before becoming embroiled in Digimon affairs, he would defend his local turf from hoodlums that would rather come in to cause trouble. Whenever there is someone in need, he WILL find a way to help them, whether they like it or not - hell, if they don't want his help, that'll just encourage him MORE. He has a strong sense of justice and of right and wrong, and a very good instinct for just what that entails. And he's actually a pretty GOOD judge of it. While very far from book smart - he's pretty dumb there, honestly - he's got a good set of street smarts, and applies them to just about everything he does.
If you're his friend, then, there is absolutely nothing he won't do to help you. He will put his life on the line, in the line of fire, and take whatever punishment someone else may be dishing out just to protect those he cares about. He cares very deeply for his friends, and there's very little someone else can do to shake that. Though he very much tried to be the lone, big hero in the beginning, he learned over time that it takes help from people to really succeed - but, most importantly, that help cannot just be given. Nor can it be taken. It must be a combined effort to really bring forth the true potential of everyone around him, and it's that philosophy which has allowed him to unleash his greatest power.
That isn't to say he doesn't fight and bicker with those closest to him, because he does. A lot. His best friend besides Agumon is Touma, who is also the one person he's probably come to blows with the most - and also the only person he's fought and never beaten. He will often grate on those with a better sense of real world logic in his enthusiasm or "think with his fist" attitude, rarely takes no for an answer, and will generally insist his head-first policy is the best way at all times. Sometimes it is! Other times it gets an entire city wiped out by Kurata. Whoops.
AGUMON
Agumon is in every way an impressionable, excitable child naive of the world around him. He was born in captivity, running on only instinct to try and escape and have his own personal freedom before he met Masaru. Unlike most Digimon, he was born in the Human World, and thus knows nothing of his own heritage or world - if anything, he is one who can relate more to Earth culture and expectations far more than his brethren.
As said, he is naive and thus constantly learning - without the influence of Masaru, he would be so easily swayed early on he very well could have veered off path. However, his "Aniki" in spite of his abrasive, confrontational attitude was probably the best thing for him. Agumon takes after Masaru as one would a big brother, learning from him, taking after his mannerisms and spirit. Due to Masaru taking care of and protecting him, he quickly becomes fiercely loyal and equally protective. He looks to Masaru for guidance and leadership, and by way of his steadfast example to never give up, Agumon can, will, and would follow him to the ends of the Earth or beyond.
Agumon is... something of a walking garbage disposal unit, however. He can and will eat anything you put before him, and you'd best not have your hand in the path of the food before he gets to it. It is his greatest joy in life, particularly the fried eggs cooked by Masaru's mother - and it really is just as simple as that. Agumon loves food, will fight for food, will do pretty much anything under the sun for food, and woe be to you if you get in the way of that.
Beyond Masaru though, he is very much treated as a child by those around him. Masaru's mother and sister almost sort of coddle him and treat him like a baby, and while he could well at least be mature enough to not deal with that, he. Uh. Fully accepts it gleefully, much to Masaru's chagrin, ESPECIALLY when he gets larger helpings at the dinner table because he's a "growing boy." Still, Agumon is not without his points of clarity and thoughtfulness, even if one would hesitate to call it "maturity" at any point.
He has stood up to Masaru's sister Chika, when she's acted a complete brat and accidentally caused a potentially dangerous fate to befall her brother. When Masaru and the others lose their memories at the hands of Kurata, Agumon takes the initiative to remind Masaru of who he is, making a stand and talking through to him, before finally delivering a punch to his face that returns everything.
When risen to anger, Agumon has been shown to exceed his own limits, even if his evolution level says otherwise. He's become a hard worn and actually sometimes clever warrior in the face of constantly mounting odds, never once in all his battles willingly giving an inch to his opponents. His will to fight and his will to win, and stand alongside Masaru doing so, dictates his strength of spirit more than anything else.
Loyal and feisty, Agumon is a simple soul with simple needs. Still, rile him up, and he and Masaru can be an unbeatable combination in battle, perhaps the best example of Digimon & humans working together as the world around them tries to tear that apart.
Abilities:
Fighter - Masaru doesn't call himself the number one street fighter for nothing. He's not formally trained, far from it - he learned to fight over the years by the simple method of getting his ass kicked repeatedly. He's a straight up brawler, preferring at all times to tackle situations with his bare knuckles, no matter how big the opponent may be. He's good at dishing out punishment with those knuckles, and just as good at taking it. Though both things get... amplified by the next topic.
Digi-Soul - Awakened by Masaru's burning fighting spirit to battle Digimon, Digi-Soul is power brought forth by a human's emotions. Manifesting itself as a blazing field of energy - either around Masaru's fist or over his entire body - it is something which primarily can cause a Digimon bonded to him (specifically, his partner Digimon Agumon) to evolve into larger and stronger forms. As a side effect however, it increases Masaru's strength and resilience to an extreme degree, giving him the power to combat Digimon on his own, able to strike and hurt them, and even kill them in later circumstances. As mentioned, his resilience is obviously raised as well, as he is able to take hits from Digimon the size of buildings, be put through walls, and get back up again without anything broken or him being mashed into a fine red paste.
Digimon - Masaru is bonded to a native creature of the Digital World, Agumon, as his partner Digimon. Starting either as a small, pink ball with a mouth and eyes called Koromon, or in his Child Level form that bears resemblance to a very large dinosaur-like reptile, Agumon can evolve into larger and stronger forms through the power of Masaru's Digi-Soul. These forms are:
Digivice - Created by his father, the Digivice channels the power of Digi-Soul into a beam of light which strikes the Digimon and automatically unleashes the stage of evolution for however much power is put into it. Once a new level is obtained, the Digivice typically evolves them straight into their strongest given form. However, Masaru, Yoshino, and Touma's Digivices were unable to withstand the power of trying to unleash their partners' Ultimate Levels and broke at one point. After obtaining a better understanding of their power at that level and what their partnerships mean to them, the Digivice repaired itself into the Digivice Burst.
Reincarnation Information
Age: 18
Species: Human
Appearance: Not especially different from canon; just a little older.
Starting Location: Locke City
History: Born to Akiyoshi and Mariko Daigo in Japan - Akiyoshi an accomplished member of the scientific community, and Mariko a budding reporter. They had met while collaborating on a project, and hit it off quite well from there. Their jobs giving them a certain level of stability, Mamoru came into a comfortable enough life as he entered the world. He grew up a relatively normal boy, if rather prone to getting into trouble. Something his father would always try to steer him from, attempting to enforce academia and avoiding conflict.
Mamoru... did not take badly to such things, but his heart was rarely into it. He struggled a bit here and there, not because of a lack of intelligence, but a lack of motivation. As a young boy he then met two girls - Kirara and Kylie - whom he managed to befriend and led to him doing many of the stupid rowdy kid things that his father pushed against. Still, he had fun, so what was the problem?
His mother was a bit different, encouraging him to do what his heart led him towards. In her upbringing, she had been expected to take on more traditional "feminine" roles in society by her family, a trend she bucked by becoming a relatively successful reporter, something she had to claw her way up tooth and nail. While it never ended up with his parents in conflict TOO much - it was a fairly loving household - it did give him a somewhat divided sense of what he wanted to do with his life.
Growing into his teenage years, while Mamoru continued to do well enough, he couldn't help but feel like he was not doing what his father was doing. The older he got, the more frustrated that left him. He would start to get into fights more and more, and as he entered High School a rift started to grow between him and his father.
As the Numbered were discovered thanks to the devastation in Locke City and subsequent events, Mariko traveled to America for an extensive period of time to cover the various incidents cropping up in the west coast as mountains grew and devastation wrecked Las Vegas. In that time, Mamoru nearly got in some severely deep trouble for petty thievery, and... Then came the month of chaos before the invasion. The Kappa rising in Tokyo, causing so much damage. As the military and government worked on what to do, Akiyoshi and fellow scientific minds were trying to find out what they could from it.
Then the invasion did come. As the western United States was wiped out, contact with Mamoru's mother was immediately lost, and Akiyoshi perished as the Kappa fought to defend Tokyo from the invaders.
His welfare lost in the devastation of a country and world trying to bounce back, Mamoru managed to use whatever funds were left of his family's available money to make it to America. Why? Because stubborn and pig-headed as he is, he refused to believe his mother was gone. As such, in the last year he's moved across the country, or as much of the country as he's allowed to visit and isn't blocked off by military. During his time in America, he also... gained his Numbers, his power, and his Digimon partner, Agumon.
Eventually, inevitably, he made it to the opposite end of where he started his search, Locke City. Sort of adrift, he's picked up a job as a bar's bouncer - something which makes anyone who walks in laugh their ass off due to his age, until he tosses them straight up down the street.
Masaru was always a man on a mission - at this point, Mamoru's a man without much of one.
Personality:
MAMORU
Mamoru does share a lot of tendencies from Masaru - usually the aggressive ones. It's offset by one particular thing however, and that's the fact that Mamoru is, objectively, smarter. Due to his father's influence, he actually applied himself in school well enough up to the point that he even manages to speak perfectly decent English. (Even if he dropped out after his father's death and his mother's disappearance.) This allows him to better function in day to day situations and take care of himself, he's able to temper his anger a lot more often than Masaru could.
However, recent experience has not made him always the nicest guy. He gets angry at people who complain about mundane things, or make stupid and costly decisions. A big sticking point for him are things which can endanger people's own families. He's unafraid to tell people off, and while neither was Masaru, Mamoru is at his starting point... far more likely to be considerably mean spirited about it.
He's basically angry all the time, whether quietly or loudly, and it's unlike Masaru's righteous fury. Mamoru has a lot pent up he needs to take out on someone, something, somewhere. This can potentially trip him up later on summoning the power of his Digi-Soul at higher levels, so he will need to learn to control that - or end up with some pretty poor consequences.
He is driven by a false hope his mother was never confirmed dead, but also fully knowing with all of the destruction it's near impossible to confirm anything one way or another. He's pretty aware that she's probably gone, but the "not knowing" is rather haunting and he's determined to do just about anything to find out the truth one way or another. Like Masaru he tries to use the good memories of his past to push him forward, but unlike Masaru he has a lot of regrets there - such as the fact that before his father died, their relationship was decidedly on the rocks.
He still wants to do well by people. He still wants to help people, and if he sees them suffering or in danger he'll do something. He just needs ... a push to get there that Masaru never did.
AGUMON
Agumon was born into this world much like his past life was born into his. He's the same kind of creature he was back then as he is now, and comes from a very similar starting point. Still, he starts off with a much angrier version of his partner - and that leads to a bit more of a snippy, abrasive partnership between the two. Agumon is even more prone to disobey Mamoru than Masaru, and they get into any number of straight up brawls far more often than Masaru & Agumon's... one or two.
This Agumon is however more readily aware of the necessity for him to stay hidden than his preincarnation. He's more willing to abide with laying low, staying in the Digivice, not coming out unless necessary - unless he wants to be a pain in Mamoru's ass, which is entirely possible and likely.
While he calls him "Bro" most of the time, and he's just as impressionable, he's a little disillusioned with Mamoru's attitude sometimes. Not that he's down on him, but because he wants to help cheer him up! And... can't figure out a way to do so. It's kind of sad, really.
However, Agumon is a very young creature only a few months old with a lot of room to develop. As such, there's not a terrible lot to be hugely different for him on the surface level yet.
Starting Echoes:
MAMORU
1st Echo (Tier 2) - Agumon in Digi-Egg form.
2nd Echo (Tier 2) - The power of Digi-Soul. As Mamoru is different from Masaru in some respects, taht which causes it to ignite differs, although it still draws from him expressing intense emotions. This includes the power necessary to eventually make his Digimon evolve, and the increases to his physical abilities when activated. This only goes as far as the initial stage of Digi-Soul strength, equal to Adult Level Digimon.
3rd Echo (Tier 1) - The Digivice iC.
4th Echo (Tier 1) - The memory of first meeting Agumon. And beating each other up.
5th Echo (Tier 1) - The Digivice iC's ability to store his Digimon Partner inside it.
6th Echo (Tier 2) - The Digivice iC's ability to make a Digimon evolve past Child Level, his "Digi-Soul Charge."
AGUMON
1st Echo (Tier 1) - Evolution from Koromon to Agumon after hatching.
2nd Echo (Tier 2) - Memory of first meeting Masaru Daimon. And beating each other up.
3rd Echo (Tier 1) - Memory of a craving for fried eggs.
4th Echo (Tier 1) - Agumon's base attack, Baby Flame.
5th Echo (Tier 1) - Memory of an insistence to NOT stay stored in the Digivice iC.
6th Echo (Tier 2) - Ability to evolve into GeoGreymon via Mamoru's Digi-Soul and Digivice, and his base attack, Mega Flame.
Goals for RtE: I kind of just wanna throw him out there and see how he develops! He's not in quite the same position as my other characters, having to start out on the bottom rung of life and work his way up. Seeing how he and Agumon react to the world around them as things move forward, leveraging both his pre-game CR and new interactions, should be super interesting.
I also want him to punch a giant monster or two.

[Mamoru sits staring at the camera, his rather messy apartment in plain view behind him. It's hard to tell if it's from mismanagement or a fight. Or both. It's just that much of a mess.]
So, ah. Yo. You probably don't recognize me - [No, of course not. He never pays attention to this damned Network and he doesn't figure anyone's going to give a crap about his problems.] - but I got a kinda... problem.
[He looks a bit deadpan. Then he holds out a hand to his side.]
The problem's about this high.
[He then holds out both hands to an extensive amount.]
The problem's head is about this big.
[He grunts.]
He's a giant yellow lizard that breathes fire. He got kinda...
[They got in an argument in which each one punched the other across the room.]
Rowdy. Then ran off. Problem is, I know those Thunder assholes are out and about and if they find 'im, that's probably gonna end poor. So... eh. I guess, anyone wanna give me a hand dealing with that?
[He frowns then, tilting his head to one side as a consideration comes up. An irritable look builds on his face, and he snorts.] Oh, and yeah? If that idiot says anything, he hit me first.
