⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Masaru Daimon
Age: 14
Canon: Digimon Savers
Canon Point: After leaving for the Digital World in finale, before timeskip. Presumably post-Xros Wars, as well.

Background: As a child, Masaru's father - the brilliant scientist Suguru Daimon - departed from the Human World into the Digital World on an expedition to explore it, and discover the whereabouts of humans that had disappeared into this alternate reality. Ten years later, Masaru - a very strong brawler, and the self-proclaimed "Number One Street Fighter in Japan" - happens upon a creature native to the Digital World, a Digimon that was under the custody of the Digital Accident Tactics Squad (DATS) named Agumon. The human and Digimon meet in battle, and by communicating with their fists, come to an understanding and close friendship. Soon joining DATS as the first line of defense against wild Digimon appearing in his world, Masaru utilizes the power of "Digi-Soul" in order to empower Agumon and have him evolve into the stronger forms of GeoGreymon and RizeGreymon. Together with fellow agents, Yoshino Fujieda and Touma H. Norstein, Masaru and Agumon battle every threat that comes their way.

Until, that is, their involvement with incidents pertaining to Mercurimon, an Ultimate level Digimon that appears to be behind threats leveled against them. The three DATS agents travel to the Digital World to investigate, only to encounter a young boy named Ikuto who believes himself to be a Digimon and hates humans, because of the death of his foster mother Yukidarumon at the hands of human soldiers. While Touma and Yoshino grow in their own power, Masaru battles the boy several times, trying to - literally - beat sense into him.

Inevitably, Ikuto is forced to see the error of what he was doing, but not before the true enemy comes to light - Akihiro Kurata, believed to at first just be a scientist and researcher working under the Japanese government, reveals his intentions to obliterate all Digimon. And that he was behind the attack years ago that claimed Yukidarumon's life.

Though Mercurimon dies saving the DATS agents, Ikuto joins their side. Kurata - along with the Japanese government's backing and his own subordinates, Kouki, Nanami, and Ivan - sets out on a mission of genocide against the Digital World. Masaru and the others fight him every step of the way, and encounter a new ally - BanchouLeomon. BanchouLeomon teaches them the art of unlocking the true potential of their Digi-Soul, and Masaru, Touma, and Yoshino evolve their Digimon to their final stages - ShineGreymon, MirageGaogamon, and Rosemon, respectively. The battle with Kurata claims many lives, and for a time, it seems Touma betrays them, forcing Masaru into a bout of anger that ends up killing and reverting Agumon back into a Digi-Egg.

While it's revealed Touma was acting in order to save his little sister from a bomb Kurata had attached to her, Kurata unveils his true intentions - summoning the power of the ancient Demon King Belphemon, to harness it and take over the world. Masaru - Agumon reborn with his memories intact - and the others fight him, with Masaru eventually unlocking the power of ShineGreymon Burst Mode in order to defeat both Kurata and Belphemon.

The resulting battle trashes the barrier between realities, threatening to make both Human and Digital Worlds collide. It's only barely held up by the power of BanchouLeomon literally holding the two worlds apart. Masaru & the others seek out the god of the Digital World, Yggdrasil, only to be forced into a battle with the Royal Knights and see that Yggdrasil is in fact Masaru's father, Suguru.

While Touma, Ikuto, and Yoshino fight to defend the Human World and end up unlocking the power of Burst Mode themselves, Masaru and Agumon venture towards Yggdrasil to set things right and find out what's going on. Masaru battles Royal Knight Craniummon, and with the assistance of his friends defeats him... and then moves on to battle Suguru/Yggdrasil on his own. Masaru is saved by the timely reappearance of BanchouLeomon, who reveals HE is Suguru - or rather, he is Suguru's Digimon partner with Suguru's soul inside him while Yggdrasil has possessed Suguru's lifeless body. Masaru is forced to kill his father in all his forms in order to defeat Yggdrasil... but even still, Yggdrasil revives and continues fighting.

In the end, with the assistance of the Royal Knights defecting from Yggdrasil, and the power of everyone in the world's Digi-Souls, Masaru and the others defeat Yggdrasil and Suguru is revived. As the Digimon are prepared to be sent back to the Digital World in order to repair the barrier, Masaru leaves with them to continue traveling with Agumon and become a better man.

[Now entering territory covered in guest appearances during the last (as of now) Digimon seires, "Digimon Xros Wars: The Young Hunters Who Leap Through Time."]

Some time after this presumably, Masaru would be called forth to another reality by a mysterious old man and his Clockmon. He, along with four other legendary "leaders" of other realities involved with Digimon - Taichi Yagami, Daisuke Motomiya, Takato Matsuda, and Takuya Kanbara - were called upon to help stem the tide of a threat posed by an entity called Quartzmon. Eventually, Masaru and Taichi were forced to reveal themselves to the heroes of that world when Quartzmon's first form was unveiled. Later, all five of them joined up with the "legendary leader" of that world, Taiki, in order to beat down a swarm of duplicate Digimon created by Quartzmon.

In the end, their power was needed to power a device called the "Brave Snatcher" that would be necessary to defeat Quartzmon, to be powered by one person from each of the timelines pulled there. While Taiki is struck down, that task is handed to his protege Tagiru, and he utilizes that power to win the day. Unfortunately, no sooner do they win does everyone get flung back to their own worlds.

[And now back to Savers proper.]

Or in Masaru's case, landing right back in his Digital World with Agumon. Thus, he went off to continue what he intended - fight the good fight and become stronger.

Personality: Masaru is very much a "punch first, ask questions later" sort of person. He grew up for the majority of his childhood without the influence of his father, yet that lack of presence was still a major driving force for him. With only his mother and sister, he saw himself as the man of the house, and responsible for having the ability to protect his family. To this end, he always felt that he was chasing his father's back, and always trying to find ways of getting stronger.

Thus, how he frequently became embroiled in fights with local street toughs. And for quite awhile when he was younger, he'd get his ass thoroughly kicked. Eventually, he started to become better and better, he began WINNING, and before you knew it he was boasting the title of "the number one street fighter in Japan."

Masaru very much believes that one can communicate their feelings through their fists. Indeed, he literally does put all of his emotions into his fists when fighting, evidenced by the fact this is what sparks his Digi-Soul - something which is the very power of emotions itself. It's something which has proven itself time and again - most notoriously with how he got to know his Digimon partner, Agumon. It's given him his drive to follow through with even near impossible tasks, and in the end it's what's given him the strength to win. Almost without fail, he believes that if he can express his will and emotions through battle, he can find some way or another to win.

However, he is extremely cocky. Though he has been beaten - quite a lot, in fact - he is still ever unwavering in sheer and utter confidence in himself, his strength, and Agumon's own power. He believes that if he tries hard enough, some how, some way he can beat just about anything - and he has the cracked face of the Digital World's god to prove he pretty much can. This has led to him biting off more than he can chew quite often - and it's gone towards quite a few of his aforementioned defeats.

Due to this extreme over confidence, Masaru can very much come across to most people initially as extremely abrasive. Some might even think him a bully at first, always spoiling for a fight. Though the latter of that last sentence is the truth, the former couldn't be further from it. Masaru is loud, often angry, and WILL pick a fight with half the people he meets in most general circumstances, whether verbal or physical...

"How a man should live" is a philosophy inherited from his father, and one of the things about him that stuck with Masaru into his teenage years. It is his excuse explanation for the majority of his actions, believing a man should have a strong force of will, stand up for what he believes in, and protect the ones he cares about no matter the cost to himself or the risk to his own life. While it's possible for him to also apply this to more mundane things, it's something he believes very strongly in and a motivation that only rarely falters.

But in the end, he's seeking to do what's right. Before becoming embroiled in Digimon affairs, he would defend his local turf from hoodlums that would rather come in to cause trouble. Whenever there is someone in need, he WILL find a way to help them, whether they like it or not - hell, if they don't want his help, that'll just encourage him MORE. He has a strong sense of justice and of right and wrong, and a very good instinct for just what that entails. And he's actually a pretty GOOD judge of it. While very far from book smart - he's pretty dumb there, honestly - he's got a good set of street smarts, and applies them to just about everything he does.

If you're his friend, then, there is absolutely nothing he won't do to help you. He will put his life on the line, in the line of fire, and take whatever punishment someone else may be dishing out just to protect those he cares about. He cares very deeply for his friends, and there's very little someone else can do to shake that. Though he very much tried to be the lone, big hero in the beginning, he learned over time that it takes help from people to really succeed - but, most importantly, that help cannot just be given. Nor can it be taken. It must be a combined effort to really bring forth the true potential of everyone around him, and it's that philosophy which has allowed him to unleash his greatest power.

That isn't to say he doesn't fight and bicker with those closest to him, because he does. A lot. His best friend besides Agumon is Touma, who is also the one person he's probably come to blows with the most - and also the only person he's fought and never beaten. He will often grate on those with a better sense of real world logic in his enthusiasm or "think with his fist" attitude, rarely takes no for an answer, and will generally insist his head-first policy is the best way at all times. Sometimes it is! Other times it gets an entire city wiped out by Kurata. Whoops.

Abilities:

Fighter - Masaru doesn't call himself the number one street fighter for nothing. He's not formally trained, far from it - he learned to fight over the years by the simple method of getting his ass kicked repeatedly. He's a straight up brawler, preferring at all times to tackle situations with his bare knuckles, no matter how big the opponent may be. He's good at dishing out punishment with those knuckles, and just as good at taking it. Though both things get... amplified by the next topic.

Digi-Soul - Awakened by Masaru's burning fighting spirit to battle Digimon, Digi-Soul is power brought forth by a human's emotions. Manifesting itself as a blazing field of energy - either around Masaru's fist or over his entire body - it is something which primarily can cause a Digimon bonded to him (specifically, his partner Digimon Agumon) to evolve into larger and stronger forms. As a side effect however, it increases Masaru's strength and resilience to an extreme degree, giving him the power to combat Digimon on his own, able to strike and hurt them, and even kill them in later circumstances. As mentioned, his resilience is obviously raised as well, as he is able to take hits from Digimon the size of buildings, be put through walls, and get back up again without anything broken or him being mashed into a fine red paste.
  • From Child Level forward, Digimon have multiple levels of evolution - Child, Adult, Perfect, Ultimate, and "beyond Ultimate," in a form called "Burst Mode." Likewise, Masaru's strength seems to increase by comparable levels with every new form of evolution.
  • For most of the series, Masaru's Digi-Soul is only ignited when he strikes a Digimon or a being that is made from digital matter, or fused with it. (See: Ikuto's boomerang, Kouki being a Bio-Hybrid fusion of Digimon and human.) This is because as stated, his power is unleashed by his desire to fight Digimon. Digi-Soul is the power of emotions, and by the end of the series Masaru is able to realize this and awaken his Digi-Soul on his own.
  • While unlocking each new level of his Digi-Soul's power requires an emotional impact, or greater understanding of himself, in particular the Burst Evolution power to channel Agumon's final form never emerges unless there is a very great threat or a massive emotional outburst on Masaru's part.

Digimon - Masaru is bonded to a native creature of the Digital World, Agumon, as his partner Digimon. Starting either as a small, pink ball with a mouth and eyes called Koromon, or in his Child Level form that bears resemblance to a very large dinosaur-like reptile, Agumon can evolve into larger and stronger forms through the power of Masaru's Digi-Soul. These forms are:
  • GeoGreymon (Adult Level) - A much LARGER dinosaur-like creature, capable of breathing both fire and energy.
  • RizeGreymon (Perfect Level) - GeoGreymon made even larger with armor for both defense and making him capable of flight, as well as a giant revolver-like gun over his left arm.
  • ShineGreymon (Ultimate Level) - A giant, armored dragon capable of channeling the powers of light and fire into massive, destructive force.
  • ShineGreymon Burst Mode (Ultimate Level, Mode Change) - ShineGreymon's power pushed beyond the limits of the Ultimate Level, wielding flaming swords and a shield.
  • ShineGreymon Ruin Mode (Ultimate Level, Mode Change) - A dark mirror of Burst Mode, Ruin Mode gains obscene amounts of destructive power, but is an uncontrollable beast. As well, he exhausts his power quickly and dies immediately after.
  • Agumon Burst Mode (Child Level, Mode Change) - The final form that Agumon unlocks, where he is enveloped in flames. He is capable of flight and has the power to nearly defeat, if not kill, a god where all other forms and powers failed.

Digivice - Created by his father, the Digivice channels the power of Digi-Soul into a beam of light which strikes the Digimon and automatically unleashes the stage of evolution for however much power is put into it. Once a new level is obtained, the Digivice typically evolves them straight into their strongest given form. However, Masaru, Yoshino, and Touma's Digivices were unable to withstand the power of trying to unleash their partners' Ultimate Levels and broke at one point. After obtaining a better understanding of their power at that level and what their partnerships mean to them, the Digivice repaired itself into the Digivice Burst.
  • The Digivice Burst functions on a basic level the same as Masaru's original Digivice. However, it is able to withstand the power of Ultimate Evolution, and further has an added feature - the Air Signal. Swiping his hand over it, Masaru can summon a new weapon for Agumon's Ultimate, ShineGreymon. In times of great danger, the Air Signal can be used to activate Burst Evolution, and ShineGreymon Burst Mode.
  • Additionally, his Digimon partner can be transported into the Digivice and stored there so that he can move with him in public and not draw attention. Agumon really didn't like this and rarely stayed in the device.

Other: Masaru will be accompanied by his Digimon Partner, Agumon! Agumon is a Digimon who was born in the Human World and kept in DATS custody until he escaped and ran into Masaru - the two communicated by fighting one another, and since then Agumon has been Masaru's loyal follower. Agumon refers to his partner as "Aniki" (which we will translate here as "Bro"), constantly looking up to him and seeking to better himself by Masaru's example. He is very childish, often causing small mishaps by simply not listening to those around him, often bickering with Masaru or others over the most petty things. However, he is extremely fierce and can show a surprising amount of clarity in the most chaotic of situations - if anything, his simpler needs probably benefit him there, only ever really focusing on the task at hand instead of letting all the mounting problems around them weigh him down. Those simple needs are, however, more often than not food. Agumon's stomach is a bottomless void - he can and will eat just about anything he can get his hands on, especially fried eggs. Boy, does he love him some fried eggs.

    ⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

    First Person Sample:

[ An image of a young man cracking his knuckles appears upon the network, grinning cockily. ]

Yo! Y'know, all the odd jobs and stuff here is fine and everything. A man's gotta work hard if he's gonna get anywhere, eh? But, y'know...

[ He gives a shrug, that grin twisting into a smirk. ] Even beatin' down the occasional ogre or whatever, there just ain't been enough for me to throw down with here yet.

So I'm gonna challenge you! [ Yes, you heard that right. ] Any of you!

The only way to be a stronger fighter is to keep on fighting. I mean, sure, I might've beaten up a god here or there, but you can always get better, right? so who's got the guts to throw down with the number one street fighter in Japan?!

[ And then, because he's not quite used to the whole "filtering his thoughts" thing: ] Man, Yoshino or Touma would probably have my ass for this, but eh, what can you do?

    ---

ALSO! Extra bits from the original Test Drive in July, though it didn't get too far because lol, life happened.

    Third Person Sample: Test Drive.

Questions: I think I covered most of my questions for him prior to the game start >_>
